Panel discussion Sisters Unite!

Sisters* Unite!

A discussion about queer_feminist political activism at Rampenfieber Festival
Friday, September 21st 2012, at 17.00, Fluc, Praterstern 5, Vienna

Nighttime is the right time for conspiracies with the feminist terrorist?! (Luise Pop)

Femen and Pussy Riot - feminist activism was hardly ever as present in the media as it is today. And hardly ever as actually those actions challenge the established political systems and bring topics such as sex work, sexism, or the right to freedom of expression to the general public. But Femen and Pussy Riot are just the tip of the queer_feminist iceberg, everywhere arise and exist feminist networks, platforms, forums, festivals, fanzines and radio shows. But many of these initiatives are only known by few, the flow of information rarely fails solely to language barriers …

With this panel we want to bring queer_feminist activists from different contexts, networks and locations together to talk about shared and different issues, approaches and practices as well as specific forms of action in relation to their individual/common political intentions. What is the role of national /regional contexts? What about the (international) exchange and what can we learn from each other?

Panel members:
Zosia Hołubowska (anthropologist, queer and anarchist activist; Copenhagen, Denmark)
Martyna Hormańska (musician, vegan and queer feminist; Wrocław, Poland)
Tea Hvala (feminist writer and organiser; Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Dorottya Karsay (queer and anti-racist activist; Budapest, Hungary)
Marissa Lôbo (migrant black activist and artist; Vienna, Linz, Austria and Brazil)
Zhenja (Kyiv, Ukraine)
Moderation / chair: Sushila Mesquita (activist, musician, researcher; Vienna, Austria)

Posvet 'Kultura in medijski prostor'

Kako vešče so same NVO pri obveščanju medijev?

Panel Discussion 'Culture and Media Space'
How and how much do we write about independent/NGO production in the field of art and culture?

The media space dedicated to culture in Slovenia is becoming increasingly narrower, whereas information pertaining to culture is becoming increasingly fact-oriented and stripped of any relevant content. This way of reporting about culture and art may give a reduced and poor image of the area in question. Apart from the narrowing of media space, the debate shall also touch upon certain other issues, such as: lack of writers for certain areas, editorial policies vs. cultural policies, etc. Participants will be editors of cultural editions, cultural journalists, workers in culture, researchers, critiques, representatives of authorities, representatives of media owners.

Moderator: Tanja Lesničar Pučko
Panelists: freelance writer and Red Dawns Fest co-organizer Tea Hvala; cultural and informative program editor for RTV Slovenia, Darja Korez - Korenčan; department of culture editor for newspaper Delo, Jelka Šutej - Adamič; theater director Mare Bulc; Directorate for Media (Ministry of Culture) secretary Skender Adem.

The consultation is organized by Asociacija, an association for non-governmental and independent workers in the area of art and culture.

Inside The Great Muddigger

The PostProloClub takes place once a month in Vienna. It is a space to present, discuss, and criticize projects, ideas, texts, or whatsoever the invited PostProlos are working on. It is there to learn how to talk, to talk wild and big!
.
The PostProloClub is going to temporarily inhabit the complicated mind of the great muddigger (Caenulentus major) in order to gain insight into the changes this species on the verge of extinction has had to face when it was forced to move from a dessicated swamp, his natural habitat, to a rented flat. Ever since he has been living with his human friend, zoologist Bata Leviki, the great muddigger has been suffering from a mild form of depression. He now spends most of his time soaking his dried-out body in the bathtub, thinking about the price of domestication, adaptation to human ways.

On Saturday, unexpected voices in his head suggest that domestication or, as they put it, the process of becoming human, has its advantages. They remind him that Bata Leviki is going through a similar process, wondering about his own transformation into a companion species. PostProlos also prepare a delicious veggie soup that, as the muddigger eventually admits, tastes much better than swamp microorganisms – or, for that matter, Bata's endless plates of spaghetti. After they generously offer him several shots of vodka, a most unusual yet empowering conversation takes place. That same night, the great muddigger is overcome by a most lucid dream, or perhaps a premonition about what is yet to come...
